West Cork to get night-time transport service after funding boost - O’Sullivan

People in rural West Cork are to get a night-time transport service, according to local Fianna Fáil Dail candidate Cllr Christy O’Sullivan.

‘Rural Affairs Minister Éamon Ó Cuív TD has informed that he’s given the West Cork Rural Transport group €83,652 to set up a night-time rural transport service which will initially operate on a one-year pilot basis.

‘I know from canvassing in West Cork that there’s a strong demand for an evening transport service to allow people to fully participate in the various activities - community, sporting and social - that take place in their areas.

‘West Cork Rural Transport already operates a professional tranport service here.

‘The funding injection will facilitate the expansion of that service and help people living in rural and isolated areas to get to the places they wish to go.

‘I congratulate West Cork Rural Transport on their successful funding application.

‘In our sophisticated new economy, nobody should be precluded from getting to shops, restaurants, pubs or other facilities because they do not live in built-up urban areas.

‘There’s a clear need to spread our transport infrastructure to every corner of the country.

‘We owe to those living in rural areas to provide them with access to the services others may take for granted.

‘Building our transport network in rural areas boosts both the local economy and social capital and I’ll do all I can to ensure that West Cork is permanently served by a transport service that reaches into the more isolated rural communities,’ said Cllr O’Sullivan.
