Efforts to site a family resource outreach centre in Ardgroom in the Beara Peninsula have taken a major step forward after receiving a grant worth €305,000 for a new building in the village, according to Cork South-West Fianna Fáil TD Christy O’Sullivan.
'The money will go towards the purchase and renovation of a premises in Ardgroom.
The outreach centre will be used to extend the family resource services of the Caha Centre to coastal communities which have largely been left without adequate cover.
It’s planned that staff will be relocated to Ardgroom when the new centre is up and running.
I’m delighted that the money, allocated by Social Affairs Minister Martin Cullen, is going to support the huge work undertaken each day by the Caha Centre.
The staff there do so much to help marginalised groups combat disadvantage and improve the function of the family unit.
Now, the coastal communities on the Beara Peninsula will soon be covered by family resource services.
I pay tribute to my Fianna Fáil colleague, Cllr Danny Crowley, who’s been centrally involved in the Caha Centre since it was set up some four years ago.
Vibrant communities are the lifeblood of Irish society.
Our communities are built around clusters of families, friends, neighbourhoods and parishes.
In modern Ireland it’s vital that we work together to ensure that thriving communities remain central to our society,’ said Deputy O’Sullivan.
