Brian Cowen TD, Minister for Finance, officially opened the Bandon office of Fianna Fail South West Cork candidate, Christy O’Sullivan, at Bridewell House, 6 Pearse Street, Bandon, last Friday evening.
Bandon Mayor, Pat Connolly and MCC Christy O’Sullivan extended a warm welcome to Minister Brian Cowen from the people of Bandon. Councillor O’Sullivan took the opportunity to thank people for the support they had given since his election as a councillor and promised that he would be working with all of them to address their problems in relation to the town.
Minister Brian Cowen thanked everyone for coming out on a beautiful summer evening. When officially opening Christy O’Sullivan’s new office he said, “Hopefully this office will be a precursor to what Christy will be doing after the election, and with Deputy Denis O’Donovan we hope to retain our two seats. A great amount of work has to be done in West Cork but it is important to get over to people that many of their problems arrive from success rather than failure.
“What we have to get across to people is to look back to 1997 and where they thought their families would be, and where they are now. This is the success of our policies. We also have a good opportunity in the coming years to ensure that the benefit from our policies will be felt in every part of Ireland. I think we have two excellent deputies. Both are people of good standing and able to represent our people’s challenges of community and rural community. We have a solid record of achievement and we need to listen and engage with the people and I would ask that this great constituency work to retain the two seats so we have Denis O’Donovan and Christy O’Sullivan working for you in the Dail.”
Minister Brian Cowen, then met with a number of groups to hear their particular problems and requests. These groups included Bandon town councillors, Ms. Margaret O’Mahony Murphy and Mayor Pat Connolly, West Cork Parents Action Group, Irish South & West Fish Producers Organisation, Sally Barnes and Donal Finn, members of Bandon Area Special Children, and Con O’Leary and PJ O’Neill.
Following these meetings Minister Cowen met with members of the Irish Wheelchair Association at their Millbrook Day Care Centre. Kathleen McLoughlin, CEO of Irish Wheelchair Association and Regional Director, Michael Doyle, presented Minister Cowen with the IWA Election 2007 leaflet detailing issues important to Irish Wheelchair Association members.
